NY Toyota Dealership Huntington Toyota Doing Its Part to Fight Hunger, Provide Support to Those in Need

Huntington Toyota is participating in the Long Island Cares, Inc., program and is asking customers to pitch in and bring items to the dealership.

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – NY Toyota customers looking to give something back to their community should know their dealership Huntington Toyota has also taken up the same idea.

“As part of the Hauppauge Industrial Association we have elected to participate in the Long Island Cares program and we ask that our customers or local residents that have already purchased or service with us pitch in and bring their items to our location”, Huntington Toyota General Sales Manager Chris Tedesco said.

The program provides nutritional food and support services to more than 550 community-based membership agencies such as shelters, food pantries, soup kitchens and more. NY Toyota customers may bring the following items to Huntington Toyota as they are the most requested and needed the most:

- Cereal, juice in plastic containers, shelf-stable milk, peanut butter, jelly, rice, beans, macaroni and cheese, pasta, condiments, canned meat, canned fish, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soups, jello and pudding, cookies and crackers, granola and nuts, and pancake/cake mix.

In addition to food, NY Toyota shoppers may also bring these items to Huntington Toyota:

- School supplies, birthday party supplies, household goods, first aid, personal care, baby care, new toys and pet food.

Huntington Toyota would like its customers to know how significant the problem of hunger is on Long Island and how it effects everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest senior citizen. Everyone can do his or her part. All it takes is one item and a few minutes from a busy day to contribute to the cause.

As of 2009, the Long Island Cares, Inc.-The Harry Chapin Food Bank has distributed almost 6 million pounds of food that provided almost 5 million meals for the hungry. Huntington Toyota hopes to contribute significantly to increase that amount for 2010. The entire team at Huntington Toyota is reaching out—even after the business day ends—and trying to increase their collection of desperately needed items for the Long Island Cares program.

Long Island Cares, Inc., The Harry Chapin Food Bank is Long Island’s first food bank and was founded in 1980 by the late singer, songwriter and social activist, Harry Chapin. The food bank is led today by Chapin’s wife and partner Sandy Chapin and a dedicated Board of Directors and staff working out of the 35,000 square foot facility in Hauppauge.
